Veganism is about being against the use and exploitation of non-human animals
I didn't go vegan for the environment or health reasons
I grew up eating meat, dairy, and eggs, assuming they were normal, necessary, and natural. But then I started watching YouTube debates by Joey Carbstrong and eventually watched Dominion. That’s when I realised I’d been misled by marketing and that the justifications I’d been using weren’t good enough.
Veganism is about rejecting speciesism and recognising animals as individuals, not objects. They feel pain, joy, and the desire to live—just like us. The reasons I once used to justify eating animals—'we’re more intelligent,' 'we’re at the top of the food chain'—are now extra reminders of why it's wrong to exploit them.
I still enjoy the same foods, just the vegan versions. Because life is more important than taste.
